Breaking News in Maycomb County


Tensions between common Maycomb citizens and Tom Robinson take the form of mob in chapter 15. Atticus Finch stands guard at the jail and is confronted by the mob and ordered turnover Robinson. Fortunately the mob rescinds its demands and disperses. You task is to recall the events at the jailhouse from the perspective in a news article from the perspective of Mr. Underwood. Remember to consider your audience. The common white folks in Maycomb are a high majority of the literate audience.

You will need to consider the following steps:
1. Write open-ended questions that seek to the questions that your target audience would pose. These open-ended questions would answer the “who, what, where and when” for this audience.
2. Answer these questions and use them as the basis for your writing. You will need to create detailed descriptive answers to drive the content and style of your article.
3. Include your own creative spin on this assignment and write it in a way that would appeal to this audience, commenting on the events to fuel the gossip loving citizens.
4. Write the article.
5. Format the article to mimic the look and feel of a news paper. Add pictures to support the content of your article, wrap the text around the pictures or create columns.
6. Take credit by writing the author’s names at the bottom of the page.
7. Create a final copy to publish (print) and submit to turnitin.com. Choose one group member’s turnitin prophile to submit the article under.
8. Finally go to your period’s wikispace page and click the in the To Kill a Mockingbird link. Then:
1. click on the News Story link
2. click the edit this page icon
3. type the names of your group leaders
4. click the insert hyperlink icon and link this to a New Page
5. click the edit this page icon
6. click the insert image and file icon in the tool bar at the top of the page
7. browse the computer for the word document to the article
8. insert the document onto the page
9. Save the page then click the hyperlink to your article to make sure that it is properly working.
